EDITING CINEMA VERITE FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

Hello, my name is Stephen Strout, and I am a documentary editor, producer and director based in Los Angeles.

I have been editing and producing award winning feature documentaries and television series with the best directors in Hollywood:  Peter Berg, Rory Kennedy, Jacoba Atlas, Emmett and Brendan Malloy, Eric Simonson and Academy Award winner Richard Trank.

I am best known for my editing in Peter Berg’s critically acclaimed HBO series On Freddie Roach, HBO’s State of Play series pilot, Trophy Kids and the feature documentaries Parkland: The New Normal, Will Of The Warrior and Revolution Green.

AWARD WINNING STORY TELLING

I made my directorial debut with the award winning feature documentary Revolution Green.  I won a Peabody Award for Best Documentary editing Black Sky: The Race For Space, and a Telly Award for the Lone Survivor feature trailer.  My editing has been honored with multiple Emmy nominations for several unscripted television series throughout my career as an editor and producer.  In 2016, the HBO series State of Play won a sports Emmy for the Fighting Chance episode I edited and co-produced.

IN THE BEGINNING

I began my career editing television commercials, theatrical trailers, feature DVD content and HBO First Looks for Gramercy, USA Films, Sony, Focus Features, Castlerock, IMAX, Polygram, DreamWorks, Disney and Universal.  My editing continues to evolve in the genre of feature documentaries and episodic docu-series currently available on all major platforms.
